Many people have lost their valuable lives due to coronavirus outbreakThe density of population is very high in India. Less public awareness and vulnerabilities in the healthcare network present strong challenges to controlling outbreaks of communicable disease. The central and state government is doing every possible try to prevent the infection from spreading any further.

Many Indian PCD Pharma Franchise Companies may suffer due to the coronavirus outbreak. China’s coronavirus pandemic is threatening to disrupt India’s $39-billion drug production by halting or severely affecting the flow of imports of bulk drugs and intermediates from the country. India is likely to face shortages of essential drugs. The problem for the Indian industry has been compounded by the fact that much of Chinese drug raw material production is concentrated in Hubei, whose capital is Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak. There are approximately 30-40 units of basic chemicals, API and intermediates in Hubei which supply products to India.

What Coronavirus exactly is?
Like other coronaviruses, it has come from animals. Many of those initially infected either worked or frequently shopped in the Huanan seafood wholesale market in the centre of the Chinese city, which also sold life and newly slaughtered animals. Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.

Symptoms of Coronavirus – Following are the symptoms observed in the people who are affected by this virus.
  • Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.
  • In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.

Affect of Coronavirus on the Indian Pharma Industry
  1. Bulk drugs and drug intermediates accounted for $1.5bn or 3% of India’s imports from China.
  2. According to the Trade Promotion Council of India, approximately 85% of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) imported by Indian companies are from China.
  3. India’s overdependence on China for APIs exposes it to raw material supply disruption and price volatility.
  4. Another major hindrance to the Indian pharmaceutical industry is its low capacity utilization, according to a report from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI).
  5. India has a capacity utilization between 30% and 40% as against 75% of China.
